New uses for worksite spoil
Could the spoil from our worksites be part of the circular economy? With this question in mind, Société du Grand Paris launched three new calls for expressions of interest in September 2021. Almost 50% of excavated material has already found a new life, most notably in the redevelopment of quarries in Île-de-France. The Grand Paris Express is therefore helping to fill back in what has been dug out over the centuries to build Paris. The goal is to achieve a 70% recovery rate. Other avenues being explored include the development of parks and gardens and the production of raw earth bricks. By December, almost half of the excavated material from building the Grand Paris Express had already been removed from our worksites.
